Gorilla Trekking for the physically Challenged on Self Drive

Gorilla Trekking for the physically Challenged at Bwindi Forest National Park, Mgahinga National Park is done. While on your Gorilla Trek, people with disability/ physically challenged, can be lifted using special equipment i.e Sedan Chairs which are assigned to you with eight porters who carry you along the varying terrain vegetation to the presence of the Gorillas. You are only lowered on the groups when you meet the Gorillas to take photos to keep with you.

When interested in watching the Gorillas with this situation, we advise you to contact an authentic Tour Operator Agency and inform them of your situation hence giving them time to plan and organize the Gorilla trekking adventure in Uganda and Rwanda.

You are carried in sedan chairs by porters along the rugged terrain and these are made of traditional bamboo material and can be hired at US $400 to US $600 per person interested.

The Porters are hired at US $15 to US $20.

So all travelers who are physically challenged/ disabled should not worry and wonder if they can trek and watch the Gorillas in their natural habitat as this is possible. So don’t be discouraged you can watch the Gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda as well as the DR Congo.

Gorilla Trekking Adventure in a Sedan Chair

A sedan Chair also referred to as Wheel Chair is made of local bamboo and helps carry disabled people from the Starting point into the thick green forest of Bwindi Forest National Park, Mgahinga National Park and Volcanoes National Park Rwanda.

The Sedan Chairs can be hired on all the park headquarters of Bwindi Forest national par’s Sectors hence these travelers have the liberty to choose the sector of their preference.

When you book the Sedan Chair, you shall also be provided by the porters who will carry you from the starting point in the forest to the location of the Gorillas.

Booking Procedure

You contact an authentic Tour operator Agency then send the money and they will instruct the driver guide to drive you to the starting point of the Park where you are carried to seat in the Sedan Chair where you are transferred from to the green forest vegetation to watch the Gorillas and take photos. The Tour Operator Agency ensures this is prepared for you at the starting point.

Watching the Gorillas is guaranteed even in the sedan chairs so the adventure is the same as those who are physically fit despite them walking along the trails in the forest.

Can I Book Sedan Chairs Anytime

Yes Sedan Chairs can be booked anytime as long as you are interested in watching the Gorillas in their natural habitat. However we advise you to book these in advance before your date of arrival to trek the Gorillas. This should be in 4 months advance.

Booking the Sedan Chairs is separated from the cost of Gorilla Trekking Permit i.e You Pay for the Gorilla Trekking Permit at US $700 per per person in Uganda, US $1500 per person in Rwanda then pay for the Sedan Chairs at US $400 to US $600 per person and this includes the fee for hiring the porters.
